Ashly & Samuel Burr

I’ve known Ashly and Samuel for years, and I was thrilled to be able to interview them and hear about their journey with art. They talk about the choices they made to fully embrace themselves as artists, the battle of comparison and self-doubt that threatened to steal art away from their lives, and the wondrous exchange that can take place when pain is worked out in the form of artistic beauty.

The Burrs have recently launched a new venture called The Burr Nest, where they create art, pottery, and fine crafts. Working as a pair to produce many of their works, they are living out the words of one of their former Belgian instructors who aptly said: “Together you make the perfect artist.”

This interview dives into the pathway to creativity, embracing your true artistic self, and learning how to let go. It also touches on the questions that artists often face, such as: “Does my art really hold any worth, even if it doesn’t sell?”
